Merck KGaA*, a global pharmaceutical and chemical company, today announced the successful completion of its acquisition of Millipore Corporation (formerly NYSE: MIL), a leading Life Science company based in Billerica, Massachusetts, USA, for an aggregate purchase price including debt and cash of approximately $7.0 billion. Merck agreed to acquire Millipore on February 28, 2010 for $107 in cash per share of Millipore common stock.

FDA clears Roche’s LightCycler MRSA Advanced Test for use in the U.S.
Roche Molecular Systems, Inc. (SIX: RO, ROG; OTCQX: RHHBY) announced today that the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) cleared its new LightCycler MRSA Advanced Test for the detection of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) for clinical use in the United States. The LightCycler MRSA Advanced Test is a qualitative in-vitro diagnostic test for the direct detection of nasal colonization with bacterial MRSA, and it is designed to aid in the prevention and control of MRSA infections in healthcare settings. Roche’s new real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test delivers rapid results (within two hours) and appears to have better sensitivity compared to direct culture-based methods.

Affymetrix Announces Preliminary Revenue for Second Quarter 2010
Affymetrix, Inc. (Nasdaq:AFFX) today reported that based on preliminary financial data, the Company expects total revenue for the second quarter of 2010 to be in the range of $71-72 million, as compared to the Company’s previous guidance in the range of $80-82 million. The company expects product revenue for the second quarter of 2010 to be approximately $65-66 million, including instrument sales of approximately $4-5 million and consumable sales of approximately $60-61 million.
