Dr. Paul Brown founded MetPath, for Metropolitan Pathology, in 1967 in New York City. This was acquired by Corning Inc. in 1982.
On 31 December 1996, the laboratory testing business was spun off thus establishing Quest Diagnostics as an independent company trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the Symbol “DGX.”
