Integrated instrument systems for plant biology, biotechnology, drug discovery and environmental science research

As part of a research project develop sorghum as a world food product at the Agronomy Department of the University of Nebraska at Lincoln (UNL) in 1957, a quantum sensor to measure the quantity of light usable to plants for photosynthesis was developed for the project. Scientists from other laboratories began requesting similar instruments, and William Biggs, co-founder, chairman, president and CEO established LI-COR in 1971 to manufacture these sensors and other products.
