Rosetta Inpharmatics LLC

Informational genomics

Dr. Stephen Friend co-founded Rosetta Inpharmatics in 1996 to design and implement DNA microarray gene expression systems. Among its top competitors are Genomica Corporation, Molecular Dynamics and Packard BioScience. The company innovates and integrates technologies in computational and molecular biology. The company’s technologies and services permit researchers to fully explore the diverse causes and consequences in gene expression, and to focus on those cellular processes that are specifically affected by exposure to pharmaceuticals, chemicals or genetic engineering. In 1999, the Company signed up a strategic partnership for the further development of the FlexJet DNA microarrays with Agilent technologies. This lead to an equity investment by Agilent. Rosetta is a wholly owned subsidiary of Merck & Co., Inc.
