The Microtransponder is a light-powered micro-/nanotransponder for performing nucleic-acid based assays. The transponders are tiny silicon integrated circuits that transmit radio signals when activated by light. An oligo probe is attached to each transponder, a vial of tagged transponders is hybridised to a sample solution. Detection of hybridisation: the particles are shot rapidly through a tube and individually zapped with a light beam and tag ID is matched with sequence ID using a computer that is attached to the detection system.
