Oryzon Genomics is the first Spanish functional genomics company. It is a spin-off of the University of Barcelona founded in June 2000 by Tamara Maes (CID-CSIC) and Carlos Buesa (University of Barcelona). The newly founded company received a 300.000 Euro cash award from a Spanish science fund.

The company has developed a DNA-chip-based technology which is aimed at increasing the production of rice. The model organism used for the developments is Oryza sativa. Virtually the function of all genes of the rice genome is to be determined.
