LION bioscience AG
IT products and software solutions for the fast evaluation of datasets generated by high-throughput technologies; drug discovery, molecular diagnostics
LION bioscience is a global provider of bio- and cheminformatics software products and solutions to improve the discovery process in the life science industry. LION was founded in March of 1997 by a group of pioneering molecular biologists and bioinformaticians from Heidelberg’s world-renowned research institutions, including the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), the German Cancer Research Center and the University of Heidelberg.
From the beginning, LION has been dedicated to leveraging advances in life science informatics to improve the efficiency and productivity of drug discovery and other areas of life science research (e.g., food and crop science). LION combines its industry-leading scientific and IT expertise to develop innovative integration and knowledge management solutions aimed at radically streamlining drug discovery processes to save time and money. That expertise derives from LION’s former drug discovery business as well as from major integration and knowledge management collaborations with companies such as Bayer AG, Schering AG and Nestlé.
Since its founding, LION has established its SRS bioinformatics platform as the industry’s leading data integration technology for biological information. SRS provides the bioinformatics backbone for about 300 commercial and academic institutions, including the most of the world’s major pharmaceutical companies. LION has grown into a recognized leader in the area of integration solutions for life science R&D, with an international team of experts operating in the U.S., Europe and Asia.

LION Target Engine™ is an application suite for the biological phase of the drug discovery process. It speeds up and improves the identification, prioritisation and validation of biological targets with its extensive range of functions, ranging from targeted data analyses and visualisation to the analysis and interpretation of biological information. LION Target Engine™ is made up of different application modules, which are also offered separately.
LION Lead Engine™ is used to identify and optimise leads in the chemical research phase as well as in pre-clinical tests and analyses. The software helps researchers identify and categorize successful leads at an early stage in order to focus on the most promising ones.
