Chemicon International, Inc. was founded in 1981 as a supplier of immunological reagents to the biomedical research facilities.

In 1992, Chemicon expanded to include the supply of diagnostic kits and reagents. Recently, expansion was undertaken to include molecular biology products for research and clinical use.

Chemicon has been a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Serologicals Corporation since April 2003.
