GeneScan Europe AG

Complete solutions for molecular biological analyses on the basis of classical procedures and pioneering biochip technology

In 1992, U. Birsner, then head of the biochemical department laboratories of the Max-Planck Institute of Immunology in Freiburg, founded Birsner & Grob Biotech GmbH (BIG) as a spin-off of the same institute.

In 1997, Ulrich Birsner and partners founded BioChip Technologies GmbH. In 1998, BioChip Technologies GmbH merged with Hanse Analytik GmbH and Genescan GmbH and GeneScan Europe AG was chosen as the common company name.

In 1999, subsidiaries were founded in Australia, the USA, France and Germany (BioInside GmbH in Berlin). In 2000, Arcensus AG (Berlin) was founded and in 2001 GeneScan do Brasil (2001).

In early 2003, GeneScan Europe decided to implement considerable restructering measures leading to GeneScan Europe AG to focus on the AgroFood business. The business of its subsidiary BioChip Technologies GmbH was downsized considerably and focuses now on biochip-based services.
