Invitrogen Launches Microarray to Study Non-Coding RNA
Invitrogen Corp. (NASDAQ: IVGN), a provider of essential life science technologies for research, production and diagnostics, today announced the launch of the first high-density microarray for the profiling of non-coding RNAs. The NCode Human and Mouse non-coding RNA microarrays consist of both non-coding RNA and messenger RNA (mRNA) content on the same array. The arrays are designed by Invitrogen and then manufactured by Agilent Technologies Inc. QIAGEN's digene HPV Test Selected for World's First National HPV Screening Program
In a campaign to significantly reduce the most common cancer affecting Mexican women, the Mexican Public Health Agency (Secretaria de Salud or SSA) has announced it is launching the first phase of a program that will offer testing for human papillomavirus (HPV), the primary cause of cervical cancer, to low-income women age 35-65. The cost of the testing will be covered by the agency. In the first phase of the screening program, which is beginning this month, more than 200,000 women in the lowest-income 125 counties are being offered the papillomavirus test along with the traditional Pap smear. In 2009, the pilot program will be expanded to include another 600,000 women in the 20 states with the highest death rate from cervical cancer.

Sequenom Completes Acquisition of CLIA-Certified Laboratory
Sequenom (NASDAQ: SQNM) today announced that it has completed the previously announced acquisition of Grand Rapids, Michigan-based Center for Molecular Medicine, a Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act (CLIA) certified clinical diagnostics laboratory. As part of the acquisition, Sequenom has formalized certain collaborative agreements with Spectrum Health and the Van Andel Research Institute, which were joint venture partners in the CLIA laboratory. The CLIA laboratory has been renamed to the Sequenom Center for Molecular Medicine (SCMM).

Nanogen Reports 2008 Third Quarter Financial Results
Nanogen, Inc. (Nasdaq: NGEN), developer of in vitro diagnostic products, has reported its unaudited financial results for the quarter ended September 30, 2008.
Revenues for the third quarter of 2008 totaled $13.8 million, representing an increase of more than 64% from the $8.4 million reported for the same quarter in 2007. Current revenue increased 7% as compared to $12.9 million in the prior quarter.

Microarray Analysis Improves Prenatal Diagnosis
A “chip” or array that can quickly detect disorders such as Down syndrome or other diseases associated with chromosomal abnormalities proved an effective tool in prenatal diagnosis in a series of 300 cases at Baylor College of Medicine, said researchers in a report that appears in the current issue of the journal Prenatal Diagnosis.

Illumina, Inc. (NASDAQ:ILMN) today unveiled a new product for DNA Analysis: the Infinium(R) HD Human660W-Quad BeadChip. This four-sample BeadChip features 2.6 million genetics markers and was developed in collaboration with The Centre for Applied Genomics at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada and the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute in the United Kingdom. The Human660W-Quad BeadChip builds on the content from Illumina’s HumanHap550+ BeadChip to target over 5,000 regions in the human genome known to be associated with copy number variation (CNV). First customer shipments of the Human660W-Quad are expected in December 2008.
